Debriefing the Guest Speaker

This is what one student wrote she learned.
In one of my classes I was able to conduct a thorough debrief of our discussion with Phil. I had students think about and write three new facts they learned from PhiL. Students then shared with their partner and added to or refined their facts. Next, students recorded two questions they still had for PhiL. They also shared these with a partner and were given a chance to add to them or refine them. Finally, each student brainstormed a possible action step we could take as a class. Each student shared their action with a partner to refine it and then shard it with the class. We came up with the following brainstorm of actions:

This is another student's facts and her questions.
  • write letters to Rockstar with ideas for non-violent games
  • create flyers for parents about ratings information
  • design posters to inform other students about the good and bad effects
  • make a movie
  • make a website
  • write an article
  • tell the News
